01. Know Your Best Angle

Stand in front of a mirror and take some time to see what angles you prefer on your body is actually a good idea job to help guide you into favourable poses, but it will help you to feel more confident if you have a bit of an idea of how you would like to look!

2. Get to Know your Photographer

Like with many other service driven professions, you need to be able to connect with your photographer in order to feel relaxed at your shoot. Spend some time checking out your photographer’s websites and social media accounts so you get a feel for the style and vibe of their work and personality. I love to meet my personal & business branding clients one-on-one for a pre-shoot consultation so we can get through any awkwardness or determine potential personality clashes prior to committing to work together. If you do not ‘click’ with your photographer upon a short meeting, then maybe it is worth considering someone else for the job!

3. Be Enriched By Light

Have you ever wondered why natural light photographers always go on and on about the late afternoon and early evening light? (And is the very reason why my business is called Enriched By Light Photography). To some it might seem strange that we book a photoshoot for the latest part of the day, but in actual fact, the late afternoon sun as it is setting, becomes far more flattering and soft. You should avoid having your photos taken in the middle of the day when the sun is at its highest as this creates unflattering and harsh shadows on your face or my personal hate, squinty eyes. Stick to the beautiful and much loved “golden hour’ and the results will speak for themselves, boosting your confidence through the roof when you see the images.

4. Wear A Comfortable Outfit

There is nothing worse than feeling intimidated in front of a camera and worrying how uncomfortable your brand new jeans are feeling! It is best you stick to wearing an outfit that you love and feel quietly confident and comfortable in as this will boost your confidence and will naturally shine through to your images.

5. Forget About Your Surroundings

During your photoshoot, it is very easy to let ourselves get distracted with our surroundings & think of silly thoughts like ‘Wonder what that that guy thinks of my pose?’ In reality though, I promise you that most of the time people don’t even notice or more importantly, do not care. Let your photographer guide you through any shyness and don’t be embarrassed or apologise for your lack of knowledge. That is what the photographer is there to help you with! So trust them! Try to forget about the rest of the world and enjoy your photoshoot.

6. Make Sure You Have Fun

As with my previous point, it is a key requirement of mine that my clients have fun and enjoy their shoot. When I photograph my clients, I do my best to keep the mood light and entertaining and have ways of making people laugh throughout their time with me. And its the natural unforced smiles and laughter that create the most stunning portraits. I see it time and time again, the best shots are those captured right towards the end of a photoshoot as the more you relax and let yourself go, the more fun you have and the more confident you feel, which in turn means more beautiful photos.

Perfecting elegance and poise in a photograph is one of the essentials for every model…well every girl who is wishing for that classy look. Here are some simple tips to remember:

Pulling the chin forward eliminates that flabby look that appears below even the skinniest chin. However, be sure not to point the chin at the camera to avoid shooting up the nose.
Posing the hair which doesn’t seem like much actually does a world of good for the model. Avoid letting it sit on the shoulder at all costs. One can have it all behind the shoulders, on one side, all in front of the shoulders, some in front of one shoulder and the rest behind the other shoulder or wear it up.
Lifting the arm maintains its actual size as opposed to pressing it against yourself which makes it look bigger. So, let it float a little or put your hand on your hip…anything to avoid squashing it against your body.
Turn your shoulders to show a simmer profile unless you are going for a powerful look such as doing a photoshoot for a corporate commercial.
Avoid showing the whites of the eyes. Showing the iris always makes you look more attractive. To achieve a dreamy look, focus on an object just behind the camera to give the illusion of and enlarged iris.

Additionals are: eliminating anything that visually extends the waist and avoid letting the nose break the line of the face.

Model Guide has taken that quest to make it a bigger outcome you can not easily resist. Established in April 2018, 7 (seven) months from now; Model Guide has taken a safe and fast path from none existing to success in a short period of time. Some essential and enormous goals are ought to be achieved as time briefs us into the future. The tremendous mind behind the establishment of Model Guide is Lewis Nyamakosi popularly known as Ludah in the social media clusters. It took a real man to risk executing a competitive vision in a competitive industry and actually make it through the challenges to come up with the final product, which was and is Model Guide. Originally established in Zimbabwe, deep within the city of Harare. The atmosphere of the organisation is clouding the world with a sweet aroma of originality in the profession of fashion and grooming models in Zimbabwe. exploring, you do need to have
certain traits, such as confidence
and health, with good skin, hair,
teeth, and nails

What kinds of jobs can plus size models book? The market for curvy
models is incredibly diverse. Plus size
models can be found on runways, in
catalogs, in magazine editorials, in commercial advertisements, and
in print campaigns for some of the
world’s biggest brands and designers. There’s even a need for plussize fit and showroom models!

Physical Requirements?

Models are generally size 12 and up with good body proportions. A general rule is that your waist should be about 10 inches smaller than your hips, but that’s just a guideline. Rules can be broken.
Height requirements vary depending on the type of plus size modeling. Fashion models are generally 5’9’’ to 6’, fit models are generally 5’5 to 5’9’, and commercial models can be any height.

Plus size models in the high fashion industry?

The world of high fashion has finally begun to embrace women of all sizes. Bold, beautiful curves are now seen on the runways of so many Zimbabwean Fashion shows and in the collections of so many locally based fashion designers,

“Fashion is an ugliness so intolerable we have to alter it every
six months” -Oscar Wilde.

Well, I would not agree with Wilde’s description of fashion as an
“ugliness”. What I do agree with though is the fact that we have
to alter it every few months, which brings me to the point of
this article, appropriate dressing for different seasons.
To begin with, models should bear in mind that as trend setters
it is their obligation to choose fashion trends that the every day
person can emulate while being weather sensitive and feeling
comfortable.
As the rainy season is upon us, it is that time again where you
throw away your maxi dresses and pull out your short dresses
and playsuits. Avoiding full length heavy trousers especially
denim is wise in this season. This is the best tie to rock cropped
pants.
When it comes to dresses for a photoshoot, or just a day out,
floral and bright neon colours are best for lightening moods on
dreary, dank days. On cold rainy days, a pair of pantyhose can
be great way to keep warm while putting on a sophisticated
look. These can be complemented with ankle boots.
Speaking of shoes, short duck boots are essential in every girl’s
closet. These are a better alternative for the traditional knee
high boots in case it turns out to be a hot day. Another must, is
a pair of rubber rain boots, that ensure being able to maneuver
different locations without trouble or having to
change soaked shoes. Leather or rexin sneakers also work
when going of a casual look, they are light and easily dry.
Chunky heels are also perfect for keeping feet dry.

Plastic shoes have been a general
trend as they definitely protect from
soaking feet. However, they are being
slowly phased out as they come with
a few hazards like sweaty feet, blisters
here and there and being unfriendly
to the environment. So, they may be
good for travelling to keep your feet
dry when going for indoor events
where other shoes are more
appropriate.
Let’s move on to makeup. This one is
a challenge for most not just in case
one gets caught in the rain, but the
general humidity is just not friendly to
most makeup. It makes mascara drip
and lipstick bleed. So, to keep your
makeup spic’n’span in the monsoon
season the first secret is to moisturise
your face. I know it sounds ironic to
add moisture when the weather is
humid, but as it turns out, skin tends
to lose moisture in humid conditions.
Therefore, moisturising your face
before putting on makeup and using
powder instead of cream foundation
will help make it set.
Now, EYES. Again moisture is key
here. Eyes should be hydrated before
eyeliner is applied. Waterproof liner
and mascara are also vital for a rainy
day. If one chooses not to use
waterproof liners, it is wise to use
nude or brown colours. Not only will
these avoid smudges, they also help
in achieving a more natural look and
widen eyes to give a bright awake
look to draw attention away from the
dull atmosphere. The same goes for
eye shadow, beige, brown and other
light powder shadows are best

As a female model and actress who is constantly trying to keep things fresh in front of the camera, new and creative poses are key. Sometimes poses can start feeling repetitive, but it’s important to keep pushing yourself to be loose, in your body, and most importantly, interesting. Here are a list of 7 simple, yet effective modeling poses I think look great on every body type.

1. Over the Shoulder

This pose will never get old to me. For one, it’s so flattering. It instantly creates dimension in the photo, and has a “flirty” like mystery to it. I love how this pose accentuates the model’s jaw line, lengthens the neck, and allows us to see a little bit of the face’s profile.

2. Use Your Hands

In portrait photography, you typically only think of a face and it’s expression. When adding hands to the mixture, the photo comes alive. A hand grazing your cheek, or playing with your hair gives the photo more of a human quality, making it more natural and relatable. In my opinion, the biggest compliment a model can receive is being called natural or a “natural”, and naturally we use our hands when we move!

3.Against the Wall

I personally love using walls or objects to play with during a shoot. For me, it’s a prop that I can lean up against, lean towards, and balance on. It’s a solid surface that I know isn’t going anywhere, which gives me the freedom to do whatever pose I so desire. It’s kind of like a little safety net, and a great tool for beginner models. I love a good brick wall! (So does every photographer)

4. Surface Lean

Whether you’re slightly sitting on, or leaning against a surface, this pose is striking and allows for the model to change her focal points to something else besides the camera. It also gives the photo a sense of ease. There is something cinematic and deep about a human staring longingly at something in the distance. If the model is actively seeing things and having thoughts behind their eyes, it will be portrayed on camera and is absolutely captivating.

5. A Little More Sensual

When doing a shoot indoors, outdoors, in a studio or in a more intimate space, lying on your stomach with legs propped up is sexy and feminine way to pose without too much exposure (unless that’s what you’re going for, if so, more power to yah!). When photographed from the side, it lengthens the body and legs. When in this pose, I like to play around with the angles of my chin; tilting it up and down to accentuate my jaw and give the pictures a different mood.

6. Hands on Hips

Putting your hands on hips when posing in front of a camera makes your waist appear smaller.lot The space in your arms creates a background effect and slims everything down! I also love this pose because it is powerful, feminine, and dominant. Whenever I do this pose I like to push my shoulders forward to accentuate my collar bones. Try playing with body weight distribution; let one leg have more weight than the other and then switch.

7. Full Frontal Face (Close-Up)

This can be one of the most beautiful and powerful portrait poses, and it is the most simple. Little is going on in the body, but everything is going on in the eyes. Nothing is worse than seeing a pair of dead eyes on camera. It is important that during a shoot, the model is consistently having thoughts behind his/her eyes as they are modeling. Modeling is acting! Sometimes when I find myself burning out I take a deep breath, close my eyes and count to three. On three I open my eyes with a fresh thought in my mind. Modeling is a lot more than looking pretty, it is telling a story through your body language and your eyes. If the story you’re trying to tell is unclear to you, it will be unclear to the audience. You are allowed to feel emotions! The more open you are to creating uninhibited art, the more creatively fulfilled you will feel at the end of your shoot.

Specific requirements depend on the client , with different jobs requiring different physical characteristics . However, most models must be within certain ranges for height , weight , and clothing size.

Education

There are no formal educational credentials required to become a model . Most modeling agencies allow applicants to email photos directly to the agency . The agency will then contact and interview prospective models who show potential . Many agencies also have “open calls , ” whereby aspiring models can walk into.

Advancement

an agency during a specified time and meet directly with agents and clients . Some aspiring models may attend modeling schools that provide training in posing , walking , applying makeup , and other basic tasks . Although some models are discovered when agents scout for “ fresh faces ” at modeling schools , attending such schools does not necessarily lead to job opportunities . Models advance by working more regularly and being selected for assignments that offer higher pay . They may appear in magazines , print advertising campaigns, commercials , or runway shows that have higher profiles and provide more widespread exposure . Because advancement depends on a model ’ s previous work , maintaining a good portfolio of high- quality, up – to -date photographs is important in getting assignments. In addition, actively participating in social media and building a large number of followers increases exposure. A model’ s selection of an agency is also important for advancement : the better the reputation and skill of the agency , the more assignments a model is likely to get .

IMPORTANT QUALITIES

Discipline

A model ’ s career depends on the person ’ s maintaining his or her physical characteristics . Models must control their diet , exercise regularly, and get enough sleep to stay healthy and photogenic . Haircuts, pedicures , and manicures are necessary work – related expenses .

Interpersonal skills

Models must interact with a large number of people , such as agents , photographers, and customers . It is important to be polite , professional , prompt , and respectful .

Listening Skills

Models must take direction from photographers and clients during photo shoots and commercials .

Organizational skills

Models must manage their portfolios and their work and travel schedules . Competition for jobs is strong , and most clients have specific needs for each job , so patience and persistence are essential .
