The journey of a queen is rarely a straight line; it is a path paved with perseverance, community spirit, and the courage to start over. As Model Guide Magazine continues to highlight the incredible finalists of Miss Icora FM, we introduce you to a woman who embodies the essence of “rising from the ashes.”
Meet Sanelisiwe Cele, a 24-year-old powerhouse from Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal, who is proving that it is never too late to chase a dream or redefine your destiny.
The Profile: Sanelisiwe Cele
- Age: 24
- Location: Empangeni, KZN, South Africa
- Platform: Education, GBV Awareness, and Edu-Tech Innovation
While many models begin their journey in their early teens, Sanelisiwe is making her professional debut this year at age 24.
”This is actually my first year modeling publicly, outside the more intimate school pageants,” she shares.
For Sanelisiwe, modeling is more than just a walk down a runway; it is a creative and advocacy-driven vehicle. She views the stage as a space to bring an artist’s vision to life while simultaneously amplifying her voice on critical issues like Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Education in South Africa.
Beyond the glitz and glamour of the Miss Icora FM stage, Sanelisiwe is a dedicated community leader and entrepreneur. She is the founder of Neli’s Tutoring Services, providing vital Mathematics and Science support to Grade 1–12 learners in Empangeni.
In a move that breaks traditional stereotypes, she is also honing her skills as a cellphone repair technician, spending her weekends training at a local workshop. This unique blend of academic passion and technical skill sets her apart as a multifaceted role model for the youth.
Sanelisiwe’s journey to the finals has not been without its hurdles. After facing significant health challenges and setbacks that delayed her university studies, she used those moments to build a foundation for her future.
“Rock bottom can be an incredible place, because the only direction left is up,” she says. For her, winning Miss Icora FM would be the ultimate symbol of rebuilding and resilience—a testament to the power of giving oneself a second chance.
Quick-Fire Q&A
Who is your role model?
“My mother. She taught me what it means to have a vision and build toward it, no matter where you start. She achieved so much with far fewer opportunities than I had.”
What is your message to your fellow contestants?
“I’m incredibly proud of every queen who fully showed up. My hope is that you never stop becoming, never stop believing in your potential, and continue to chase every dream with confidence.”
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
“Expanding my tutoring and tech repair ventures into an edu-tech initiative. I plan to complete my university studies and continue participating in pageants nationally and internationally. My purpose sits at the intersection of people, education, and technology.”
Sanelisiwe Cele is a reminder that our past challenges do not define our future—they refine our purpose. As she prepares for the Miss Icora FM finale, she carries with her the hopes of Empangeni and the strength of a woman who refused to stay down.
