    THE TRENDS IN MEN’S 2020 ZIM FASHION WORLD



    2020 has been the most difficult year when it comes to the fashion and modelling industry .
    This was due to the Covid 19 pandemic,which has affected the world and placed the world into lockdown.
    Creating an atmosphere for activities such as fashion shows and gatherings to be cancelled and others to be postponed .
    Financial the industry has also been crippled as non activities took part the industry hence no income was generated .
    However a number of fashion lovers kept the industry going.
    In the world of male models,Ben Chest;Liam Hall;Tino Chinyani;Ray Motsi;Devson Luzane;Jimmy Mhlanga;Ishmael Murangandi are some of the names that dominated this year’s modelling sector.

    Ben Chest had casted in various music videos for example JP’s music videos and Tammy Moyo.
    He also got re-nominated for the #BAAzw2020 under Outstanding Male Model Award.While Liam Hall a photogenic model,trended due to his Photogenic pictures ,as well as his nomination at the Roil #BAAZw2020.
    Liam worked with Snaz and Bulawayo Arts Awards Nominee, Sozinio Jordao.
    He also took part in the Fashion Awards Runway Show.
    Tino Chinyani who is regarded as the legend of Zimbabwe’s modelling industry dominated the industry in both negative and positive ways.
    His photogenic pictures were the talk of the town,in the sector.
    While everyone celebrate with him when he announced that his now a father,to a baby boy named Tinaye with South African actress Simpiwe Ngema.
    Back home ,multi_award winning model,Raymond Zviko Motsi’s popularity grew this year through his photogenic and commercial modelling with Jan Jam exclusive boutique brand and his own personal pictures.
    Hence he won, Outstanding Male Model Award during ,the 2020 Glam Awards .
    Ishmael Murangandi ,who is Mister Zimbabwe’s runner up,he co-founded the first ever Mister Teen Zimbabwe along with other models and has been conducting charity work across his home town.
    Another model from the city of Kings and Queens who was one of the most trending models this year,is
    Jimmy Mhlanga,no fashion runway shows for him this year but photogenic and commercial modelling he dominated.
    As he took photoshoots with international brands in
    South Africa such as Palse’s S/S 2020 etc.
    He is also a nominee for the Outstanding Best Male Model Award at the #BAAzw2020.
    The name of the reigning Mister Zimbabwe,can’t be skipped out from the male models who did well this year.
    Devson Luzane,the reinging Mister Zimbabwe managed to launch his fitness programme on Zbc tv and in addition he signed a number of modelling commercial shoots contracts with different brands.While he was in his office of being Mister Zimbabwe .
    He also toured across the country in promoting the title Mister Zimbabwe,not forgetting that before his term is over he entered the Zollywood world as an actor.
    The term fashion can’t exist without,the Designers being stated, many designers changed sides and thought of focusing in creating masks this year which was a positive move .
    As they were play their part in saving the world.
    However some created masks and on the other hand they continued launching exclusive collections.
    The International fashion house,Zargue’sia,founded by Ishmael Tsakatsa is one of the best fashion house ranked in the country.
    Designing 8 stunning dresses for his clients,who made his garments to be the talk of the NAMA’s red carpet this year,was his first move of the year .
    Who will forget his opening year collection.
    At the moment he recently released his latest collection,’The Royal Remnants’,is being viewed as one of the best collections ever to be released in Zimbabwe this year by fashion lovers .
    The International brand was suppose to present one of s
    their collections in Botswana this year,however due to Covid 19 the show was conducted digital where he presented his collection and is expected to present it in Malawi.
    The Zargue’sia brand was not the only male fashion house,which dominated in the industry this year.
    Sozinio Jordao a fashion house whose,roots are traced from the city of Kings and Queens aka Bulawayo.
    The brand has been designing for the Queens in the city Royal Kingdom of Bulawayo and also outside the boundaries of the Province.
    One of its major trend this year,was the garment which was worn by Zimbabwe’s male model Liam Hall.
    The Sozinio Jordao is nominated at the #RoilBAAzw 2020 awards and many believe it is the winner of the gong.
    From the Sunshine City of Harare,the Ivhu tribe, keeps Shining across Africa as it continued this year in it’s use of it’s costumes in telling unique African stories.
    One of their major costumes are the ones which this year,Vimbai Zimuto wore.
    Without the role of photographers ,we won’t be able to visual see our favourite models and the work done by the designers .
    This year #Puzzlemoment, a brand from Bulawayo stood out for many.
    Founded by a young gentlemen who goes by the name Ricky whom many prefer to call him the ‘King of Photograph’ .
    This year was his year as, a photographer as everyone in and outside the fashion world, in all the four corners of the country wanted to work with his brand .
    One of his most trended shoots,was the one which he conducted for the come back of Sandra Ndebele.
    The pictures went viral,on all social media platforms.
    Last but not least,before the country went into a national lockdown,due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
    Anesu Mhembere aka Minister Whitelinen,who is the co-founder of the Dandy Gentlemen Zimbabwe,hosted the first ever Dandy Gentlemen Zimbabwe show.
    The show was hosted in Harare and in the second capital city of the country .
    Due to the Covid 19 pandemic,organisers of the event had to cancel the event which was scheduled to be hosted in Gweru .
    The Dandy Gentlemen Zimbabwe event,involved gentlemen who wore their vintage wear across the town and also conferences which are meant to discuss more about grooming.
    Anesu is also a fashion stylist and a wadrobe consultant .

    ‘The Royal Remnants’ is the latest collection to be released by the Multi Award winning International fashion house,Zargue’sia,in Botswana.
    In an exclusive interview with the brand,founder Ishmael Tsakatsa,who provided insights about the collection’s origins.
    We also get to know how the Zargue’sia brand is reaching out to it’s clients,during the Covid 19 pandemic.

    TR:2020 has been one of the worst years for many across the world . What definition can you give to describe 2020….
    IT:2020 was a tough challenge.


    TR:You were meant to showcase in Botswana this year however due to Covid the show was cancelled,how did that affected your brand?
    IT:It was a bit of a setback but it was postponed and to the 16th of October and we managed to do a digital showcase in Botswana.


    TR:Besides the show you are regarded as one of the most successful designers in Zimbabwe. Can you share with us some of your success this year as a brand?
    IT:The brand has received global recognition in different parts of the world as well as invitations to different platforms abroad. Our clientele continues to grow and we are tapping into new markets as well.


    TR:Ishmael ,Spring/Summer is already upon us,you releasing your s/s 20/21 collection.Can you give us an insight of the collection ?
    IT:“The Royal Remnants” Spring/Summer 2021
    A collection inspired by a story of a woman who went into exile and hiding in order to protect her children from slaughter by her enemies. Many years later, the children reappeared with boldness, power and authority to repossess their inheritance.


    TR:Zargue’sia brand is well known of exhibiting your collections across international platforms. Where are you planning to showcase your latest collection ?
    IT:We recently launched it in Botswana and month end it will be exhibited in Malawi .


    TR:What will set this collection apart from other previous collections we have seen from your brand?
    IT:It is a very bold and daring dramatic collection from the color palette and designs of the pieces


    TR:Just like many brands that have been affected by the Covid 19 pandemic lockdowns.What are your major plans in making sure you going back to where you where?
    IT:As a brand we are strategizing on taking advantage of digital marketing and online shopping for our soon to be opened online store that will be shipping worldwide and catering for clients across the globe


    TR:What words do you have to your clients who have support your brand in the past years,especially this year during the Covid 19 pandemic?
    IT: I would like to say thank you for your loyalty and we are grateful for standing and supporting us in such difficult times.

    It’s that time of the year,where we have to put our jackets, Jerseys back to the closert.
    Yes it is the spring/summer season . Many get confused when it comes to the what to wear,when it comes to summer.
    We interact with Mbongeni Nxumalo,fashion stylist who derives from the Royal City of Bulawayo . He provides his tips on what to wear this summer. enjoy!

    TR:From Choreography to fitness trainer and fashion stylist. Who is Mbongeni can you describe yourself in few words?
    MN: Mbongeni is a creative diverse in the art sector of dance and fashion .

    TR:One can observe that you have been working out a lot by the 6 packs. When did you thought of taking fitness training as a career?
    MN:I thought of taking fitness as a career during this ‘Covid19 Lock Down’ since it started and l have been putting so much efforts to it by being consistent to it also .

    TR:How has your journey been since you embarked on your journey?
    MN: lt has been amazing and creative showing off my different kind of skills to the world that l am capable of.

    TR:Besides being a fitness trainer,you are also a fashion stylist how do you manage,to combine the two?
    MN:l am now a Choreographer, fitness coach and stylist and l give myself, self time for it and l think on it’s on ! It’s on co-ordination l am able to combine all of it .

    TR:Speaking about fashion,what’s your description of summer/Spring season?
    MN:Summer is when you allow the body to get the fresh air by combining your shorts, vests , shades ,caps , sun hats , sneakers etc and spring it’s dilution where your casual can now feature combining your fashion style in one .


    TR:To gentleman what advise do you have when it comes to what to wear this year’s S/S?
    MN:Any preferable style of theirs during this summer season, they are allowed to just play around their fashion style they like that is going to present them in a comfortable manner .

    TR:You have travelled across the world . Which place is it suitable for one to purchase their summer/spring clothes.
    MN:Ohhhhhh any country has dope stuff to just shop your clothes depending on your choice and what you like and you think it’s suitable for you .

    TR:If Covid wasn’t present which country would you have chosen to spend you summer holidays
    MN:IBiza , Jamaica, Ghana, Nigeria or America to name a few .

    TR:You are part of the Soul Dudes crew,what made you and your duo member (Aaron) to form the crew?
    MN:Yes l am part of a Dance duo called SOUL Dudes which was formed by me & friend Aaron in 2014 when we started creating some freestyles which were liked by many …

    TR:As we wrap up how do people join your fitness programme and how your fashion clients reach you?

    Descrimination due to one’s complexion,height are one of the most common things found in the sports and modelling industry.
    Mpiliso Dake Nyathi a Zimbabwean SA based model faced these challenges in his sports and modelling career. In a conversation with him,he provides details how he managed to overcome being bullied.
    He also tells us what it meant taking part in the first ever SA Men’s Wear Digital Fashion Week that took part this year.

    TR:Thank you for your time. Can you tell us about who you are ?
    MN:My name is Mpiliso Dake Nyathi better known as Daike. Am a ambitious 22,gentleman,with big dreams.


    TR:Growing up during your heydays one of the major challenges that you faced was being bulled.How did you manage to escape that challenge?
    MN:Growing up I was mainly bullied because of my height and complexion ,I then persued Rugby and modelling where both these things I was bullied for were approved and appreciated.

    TR:When did you then discovered that modelling was part of your life?
    MN:After I finished High school,that’s when my journey in the industry began. I would say that’s when I was given birth in the industry.


    TR:Your photogenic pictures are mainly all,telling stories in an artistic way.What inspires you to conduct such photos as a model?
    MN: Previously I had done a project with John C Ablaza from the Philippines called ‘African project’,so basically we were mainly showcasing the African culture .That’s when I got inspired into telling my story using my Photogenic pics .


    TR:This year what have you been up to in the modelling industry,since the world is facing the Covid 19 pandemic and lockdowns?
    MN:Fortunately i managed to share a stage with SA -male models at the SA Men’s fashion week about two months ago which was a virtual Fashion show.
    Where a number of designers presented their work including Thobby Cooper,SPCC,Masa Mara and I had an opportunity to wear Quiteria’s collection.


    TR:Who is your fashion Amuse?
    MN:Mr Passy

    TR:State at least 3 countries you would like to visit in ?
    MN: Zanzibar , Singapore,France, those are my number one favourite countries I would like to visit this holiday.


    TR:Besides being a model you are into television presenting can you,give us brief information about your presenting career?
    MN:Presenting has always been my aspiration as I’ve tried to go to castings for presenting I never managed to get the spot ,so I then decided to start my own show called the Daike Nyathi Show (DNS) with the help of my cousin who is into music and Abit of film and with the help of our sponsors…we brought our heads together to bring a show that will give light to upcoming entrepreneurs and artists and promote them to the world and I’d soon would like to see the show go to higher places,I mean international.

    On our visit to the city,we caught up with the Queen of the city’s Tourism,Miss Tourism Bulawayo,Natasha Gora.Who briefed us about the city of Bulawayo’s Tourism sector.
    Also Queen Natasha,told us about his journey in the modelling sector.

    TR:Miss Bulawayo Tourism thank you for the opportunity to interview with you? NG:Thank you and welcome,to the Royal City of Kings and Queens.

    TR:What makes Bulawayo’s Tourism Industry unique? NG:The first thing that makes Bulawayo’s Tourism industry unique is that we are multi racial, we have the biggest Natural History Museum in Southern Africa and we surrounded by beautiful landscape for example the Matobo Hills.

    TR:Wow indeed,your city is Rich in tourism .


    TR:The City was part of the national lockdown and the industry was affected,what measures do you think can be done to improve the city’s Tourism ?
    NG:At the moment the only way,we can keep people (tourist) who are interested in wanting to visit our beautiful city is by showcasing our Tourist attractions through all social media platforms.
    But most importantly by following, the lockdown rules so the Corona cases (Covid19),may disappear and we can be able to move around and welcome people again.


    TR:In your terms can you share with us some of your,projects that you conducted?
    NG:In terms of projects I am working with Ishmael Murangandi, Tatenda Njanike and Martin Uladi in running Mr Teen Zimbabwe competition.
    Most of the time I work with Ishmael Murangandi in donating food and clothing to those who need them,in addition I run a program with close friends and school mates in the fight against Gender Based Violence with the out reach program “Catch them Young”.

    TR:When you were crowned as Miss Tourism Bulawayo,what came up to your mind?
    NG:What came into mind,first was joy and shock. I couldn’t believe it and at the same time I was happy.
    I had mixed emotions, however at the same time I knew there was a huge task ahead of me that came with wearing the crown.


    TR:Natasha besides being,Miss Tourism Byo you are also into photogenic modelling. Who are the designers and photographers you worked with ?
    NG:When it comes to designers I’ve worked with CJ clothing, Empress Primmy designs, Sanz. Zw. These are some of the big brands in the city.
    As for,Photographers SaDee Lensworks, Puzzlemoment and Lex Wavy.


    TR:Which other Pageantry have you taken part in ?
    NG:I’ve taken part in international pageantry,Miss Silk Road Global Tourism Gala were I was crowned Miss Most Potential Tourism of the world 2019 in China
    Miss Cosmo World and I made it to top 8 in Malaysia.


    TR:Whom do you look up to in the industry?
    NG:In Zimbabwe,it’s Sarah Mpofu Sibanda who is my mentor and Tyra Banks


    TR:Where do you see your future?
    NG:In the future I see myself as one of the best Business woman in my city .

    ‘I want to be the title holder of the biggest title nationally and World Wide’

    Scouted by Zimbabwe Image Consultancy Modelling Agency ,which is under the wings of Mercy ‘Princess’ Mushaninga,is the 10 year old model,Millan Anashe Ryan Mapfumo.
    Milan is a grade five year old student at Highlands School above all he is the 1st runner up of Mister Little Zimbabwe 2020.
    In an interview with Millan’s mother (Ms Baureni) she told model guide that,Millan’s talent was spotted by Princess Mercy who then groomed him.
    While as for her ,as the parent,she never neglected her duties in supporting his son’s modelling career.
    Ms Baureni advised other parents not to give up in supporting their children when it comes to their career’s and she further added that modelling develops one’s confident.
    “modelling has made me realise that it’s not just about walking the ramp,fashion and photography,modelling can make you discover the best out of your child that is talents,skills and child development above all confidence Building,”she said.
    Speaking in the same atmosphere,Prince Milan told model guide mag that since he won the title, Mister Little Zimbabwe runner up. His life has changed and he hopes to win major titles such as Mister Zimbabwe and Mister Worldwide.
    “I want to be the title holder of the biggest title nationally and Worldwide,”informed Millan .
    On the other hand Millan who has adopted the name,
    Mr Zimbabwe which he has been given by some of his friends.
    Stated out that his inspiration comes from Devson Luzane the current reigning Mister Zimbabwe.
    Also Millan hopes to take part in acting soon .

    1;81 tall,fitness commercial and Pageantry model who is humble and hard working are the description that one can use to describe,31 year old, South African based model Mandla Manzini.
    Mandla is one of the few, successful South African models,who derive from Langeloop village from Mpumalanga.
    In his modelling career,he rose into fame when he took part in Mister Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
    He was successfully ordained the second runner up for the pageant in 2013.
    Mandla continued in his modelling pageant journey,as he contested in Mister South Africa 2020.
    However his journey ended in the top 30 .
    While in commercial sector,he shoot an advert for the following brands: Guinness Beer,Black Label, Savannah Ads among other prominent brands in Africa.
    At the ramp, worked with several designers who include:Award winning designers such as David Tlale
    ,Nao Serati,Vuyo Bolo (Vuac Bolo),C Squared,Owen (ION) etc.
    Apart from his modelling career he is also a motivational speaker who has been encouraging,youths from his town not to drop out of school but to pursue and achieve their dreams.
    Mandla is aiming to work with established brands both local and international as a model and to also take part in pageants .

  • THE DURBAN FASHION FAIR CAME ALIVE !

    ‘The Show Must Go On!,was particularly important as the city’s economy had been hard hit by Covid -19 pandemic and required lockdown regulations and every opportunity needed to be taken to help restore the livehood of the city’s business’.
    Those are the words spoken by Ethekwini Mayor,His Worship Councilor Mxolisi Kaunda,as he appreciated the DFF organisers for organising a virtual show of the event which was hosted from the 23rd to the 25th .
    The Mayor continued on his words which showed faith towards the restoration of the economy of the city’s economy.
    As the city was under lockdown due to the Covid 19 Pandemic.
    “The DFF is one of the platforms to be used to assist in the city’s recovery efforts,”said Mayor Kaunda.

  • WHY I USED LEATHER FOR MY S/S20 COLLECTION ?

    MF fashion brand is located in Ghana,we talk to it’s founder Mohammed about there Spring/Summer 2020 collection .
    We observe that the collection is made out of leather and Mohammed explains to us the reason behind the use of the fabric.

    TR:When was your brand founded?
    MF:MF CULTURE brand was launched in 2018.

    TR:What does your brand mainly specialises on?
    MF:Well as a contemporary luxury brand I incorporate the indigenous Ghanaian fabrics.Eg.Leather fabric to give my brand a unique identity from other fashion brands.

    TR:When was your first show?
    MF:My first show I showcased was this year @winnebafashionweek(wfw20).

    TR:How many shows have you showcased in recently?
    MF:Ihad about three shows:
    @kumasifashionweek
    @tamalefashionweeek
    @fireontherunway in Kenya got cancelled because of covid 19,it also affected my sales that’s low cost of demand for the outfits.

    TR:You released your Spring Summer collection can you tell us about it?
    MF:The inspiration behind my S/S20 collection is about blending my culture and the western trends to a modern taste of fashion.
    I decided to go back to my roots and pick key ideas to blend it with western trends and to depict the names in my local dialects( suglo) meaning patience for the because world experienced covid 19 so I wanted to say patience is what once need regardless of the covid and the us beauty of it because after war the is peace then I brought feelings into the pieces.

    TR:Why leather?
    MF:I choose leather because the brand is specifically into custom made jackets and other contemporary wears.

    TR:What should we expect from you?
    MF:People should expect more exclusives designs from the brand.
    I’ve dare to take my fashion talent to the next level and encourage my fellow designers to believe in their dreams.

  • WHO WILL EMERGE AS THE BEST FASHION DESIGNER ?


    More than 12 designers from across,the country are to exhibite their work in a competition which is going to determine, Zimbabwe’s Best Fashion Designer on the 17th of October.
    The competition is founded by Tatenda Karinda a fashion enthusiastic,fashion designer and the founder of fashion Fusion .
    In a press release,released by Karinda he stated out that the event’s foundation is built in a mandate to promote and expose the fashion design talent within the landlocked country.
    “We have the most talented designers in Southern Region of Africa but there is no exposure and our marketing is poor.
    “Yes we have fashion shows and all but most people focus more on models rather than who made the garment they are wearing,”said Tatenda.
    Mr Karinda said designers who are to exhibit their work include:SANZ,Abianka fashion furoreS.O.G CLOTHING,
    0DEGRESS,UNIXORN,AFRO PHOENIX,Millionaire business mindset,ROYAL CIRCLE,Aidah,Hismuse,Ruby’s touch,Voccu.
    They will be required to exhibit at least five categories:sports wear,summer wear,retro/vintage and their own category piece of Designs.
    The winners will be ,The People’s Choice and The Judges Choice for which the judges are:Anesu Mhembere fashion stylist,Lorraine Taylor,Anita Kunie model,Vesna Mutasa deputy CEO of OTMA.
    The winners are to walk away with cash price and hampers courtesy of an unidentified partner of the event.
    In addition they will be awards soon after the presentations.
    Tatenda also informed that the show is to follow all Covid 19 regulations,hence those taking part will be provided free masks.
