As the curtain falls on Lucia Simelane Ochan’s tenure as Mrs Curve Globe 2023, the Model Guide Magazine had the privilege of sitting down with this remarkable woman to reflect on her remarkable journey.

At first, Lucia admits, the responsibility of holding this prestigious title was overwhelming. “I had big shoes to fill, standing in the gap for women all over the world, not only in my province or country,” she shares. However, the unwavering support she received from her province, country, and neighboring countries such as Eswatini and Mozambique, where she is situated in a Triland Zone, made the journey easier.

Lucia’s tenure was marked by impactful initiatives that addressed critical issues facing women. She hosted her signature event, raising awareness on Gender-Based Violence and Female Empowerment, which was held in Nkomazi and Ehlanzeni District Municipality, in partnership with the Women’s Council and the Office of the Mayor.

In a remarkable accomplishment, Lucia was honored with the Mrs Curve Globe Lifetime Achiever Award in March this year in China at the Mrs Globe 24 Coronation. This accolade has granted her a lifetime involvement with the Mrs Globe Organization and the prestigious role of spokeswoman for the WIN Foundation.

Lucia’s influence extended beyond her borders, as she was invited to judge two international pageants: Mrs European Nations in Greece and Mrs Globe in China. This not only celebrated South Africa’s prowess but also showcased the immense talent and potential of the African continent.

Throughout her reign, Lucia has been a passionate ambassador for her province, country, and the Triland Zone, promoting their diversity, culture, and tourism to the world.

When asked about her role in this year’s competition in the USA, Lucia beams with pride. “My role was to represent South Africa, Mpumalanga, and the African continent to crown the next Mrs Curve Globe 23,” she says. “I was invited as a VIP judge and jury member for the week-long event, which took place in Rancho Mirage, California, from June 18-23, 2024.”

As her tenure comes to a close, Lucia reflects on what she will miss the most. “Luckily, my title is a lifetime achievement, which means I’ll still continue as Mrs Curve Globe 23, a spokesperson for the WIN Foundation, and a fundraiser for women in need across the globe,” she explains. “Most of all, I’ll miss being part of the Globettes sisterhood, where we support and empower each other.”

What Lucia enjoyed the most were her social community initiatives that empowered women, youth, and children. “Being involved with our Department of Culture, Sports, and Arts in Mpumalanga, celebrating my culture and heritage in Eswatini, judging three international pageants and our Provincial Pageant (Miss Mpumalanga), and promoting our Triland Zonal Countries to the world – these were all immensely fulfilling experiences,” she shares.

As Lucia passes the baton to her successor, she has a powerful message to share: “This journey is not an easy one; it requires determination, dedication, and self-belief. Never underestimate the impact you can have. Be open-minded, open to new ventures, and learn and adapt as the journey progresses. Surround yourself with supportive and like-minded individuals who share your passion. Remember that challenges are part of the journey, but they also present opportunities for growth and innovation. Stay committed to your mission, and always strive to uplift and empower those around you. Your efforts, no matter how small they may seem, can create meaningful and lasting change. And most importantly, remember that self-love is non-negotiable – always remain true to yourself.”

Lucia Simelane Ochan’s legacy as Mrs Curve Globe 2023 is undeniable. Her unwavering dedication, her passion for empowering women, and her ability to inspire change have left an indelible mark on the lives of those she has touched. As she passes the torch, the world eagerly awaits the continued impact of this trailblazer.
