At just nine years old, Abongwe Gwavu is already making waves in the modeling world. Her journey began in 2018 when she entered a preschool competition at the tender age of three. Although her family didn’t take it seriously at the time, it sparked a passion within her that would soon flourish.
Early Beginnings
Abongwe’s true modeling journey took off in May 2024 when she participated in the Miss KwaDwesi pageant. To everyone’s delight, she was crowned Junior Miss KwaDwesi 1st Princess. This experience revealed her potential and love for modeling, showcasing her natural talent and confidence on stage.
A Proud Mother
Her mother, reflecting on Abongwe’s success, expressed immense pride. Initially nervous about her daughter’s lack of formal training, she was taken aback by Abongwe’s performance. “When she got on stage, she was on fire,” she shared. “You could see she loved what she was doing—the smile, the walks, and the confidence were all there.”
Balancing School and Modeling
Abongwe attends Parsons Hill Primary School and is set to enter grade four. Her mother emphasizes the importance of education, stating that Abongwe prioritizes her schoolwork, completing homework and revisions before attending modeling classes on Tuesday afternoons. Balancing both worlds, she continues to excel academically.
A Message to Other Parents
For parents of aspiring young models, Abongwe’s mother advises, “Support your child with all that you have. Always be there for them and look for opportunities.” She believes every child is beautiful and unique in their own way, encouraging parents to nurture their children’s dreams.
Giving Back to the Community
Abongwe’s journey is not just about glitz and glamour; it also involves giving back. During her time with Miss KwaDwesi, she visited the pediatric ward of Livingstone Hospital, bringing party packs to sick children to show love and support. Recently, for the Miss Glitz and Glamour SA 2024, she organized a soup kitchen in honor of Tata Mandela’s legacy, dedicating her 67 minutes to serve her community.
A Bright Future Ahead
In August 2024, Abongwe achieved a significant milestone by winning a modeling contract with TMA Models, marking the beginning of her professional career. Her mother proudly states, “This is her dream come true. TMA is a good agency, and you will be seeing more of her.”
As Abongwe Gwavu continues to shine in the modeling world, her story serves as an inspiration to many young aspiring models and their families. With her talent, dedication, and strong support system, the sky is truly the limit for this remarkable young girl.
