Kimberly Sibusisiwe Sibanda: Rising Star in Commercial Modeling

In the world of Zimbabwean fashion and advertising, Kimberly Sibusisiwe Sibanda, better known by her stage name Slimthick, is steadily carving out a name for herself. With her striking looks, natural confidence, and love for fashion, she has become one of the most promising commercial models in the country.

For Slimthick, modeling was born out of a genuine love for fashion. She enjoys experimenting with different outfits and showcasing her body’s versatility, believing she can pull off any piece of clothing with elegance. What inspired her most, however, was the idea of traveling the world, collaborating with big brands, and creating a lasting image. “Being a fashion model pays a lot because you get money for every little project you do,” she says. “I can say I’m in the right industry because I will be doing what I love the most.”

Her background in HAMAPs at the University of Zimbabwe complements her career, equipping her with marketing knowledge that blends seamlessly with her work as a commercial model. She currently partners with several brands, helping them grow while building her own name.

Slimthick’s modeling journey began in an unexpected way—through a relationship. Her then-boyfriend, a model himself, noticed her natural potential and encouraged her. Together, they did their first photoshoot, which turned out to be a breakthrough. “The outcome was very nice. We could sell those pictures for better money, and that’s when I started to get more projects because I was now on the spotlight,” she recalls.

To sharpen her skills, she pursued online studies in modeling, learning how to create a strong profile and present herself professionally.

When asked what type of modeling she enjoys most, Slimthick doesn’t hesitate—commercial modeling is her lane. She prefers working behind the cameras rather than on the runway, choosing to focus on advertising and promotional work where professionalism is key. “People here in Zimbabwe mix business with pleasure, so I just love to work behind the cameras,” she explains.

Her most memorable shoot so far was a boudoir session, where she collaborated with other models she had only known online. The experience opened her up to networking and building valuable connections in the industry.

Slimthick describes her style as classy, clean, and neat. She believes a model must always present herself as an example in the community, and this principle reflects in all her shoots. She is naturally confident, which helps her shine in front of the camera without effort.

To maintain her figure, she follows a fitness routine at home, focusing on keeping her tummy flat and her curves in shape. She also takes great care in preparing for shoots—ensuring outfits are spotless, makeup is flawless, and concepts are executed with excellence.

Looking ahead, Slimthick dreams of working with talented designers and international brands. While she’s still exploring opportunities, she’s determined to position herself on a global scale. “I always set an international standard on my shoots,” she says. In five years, she sees herself collaborating with global companies and expanding her reach beyond Zimbabwe.

One of the biggest misconceptions Slimthick addresses is the stigma attached to modeling. Many people assume it’s a dangerous or corrupt profession, but she disagrees. “Most people don’t know that modeling is a serious profession. You can live a luxurious life out of it. It’s very safe if you train the kids right,” she explains. She stresses the importance of surrounding yourself with serious, professional people to avoid distractions and negative influences.

Her advice to young girls aspiring to become models is simple but powerful: “Follow your heart and your dreams. Modeling is a safe profession. Create a good profile for yourself and market yourself until big industries recognize you.”

Outside modeling, Slimthick has another passion—music. She occasionally records tracks for her personal playlist, enjoys karaoke nights with friends, and dreams of one day gaining recognition in the music industry. For now, it remains a fun and creative outlet that balances her modeling career.

Slimthick’s life is a testament to balance. Working mostly from home, she juggles her modeling projects with marketing and advertising, ensuring her career complements rather than conflicts with her personal life.

With her confidence, discipline, and clear vision, Kimberly “Slimthick” Sibanda is not just a commercial model—she’s a brand in the making, and one that Zimbabwe should be proud to showcase to the world.
